Melike Günyüz has added a new tale to her Keloğlan stories, written with fresh content and perspective using Keloğlan motifs and fairy tale structure. The fairy tale Keloğlan in the Land of Lost Scents has the same structure as Melike Günyüz’s previous Keloğlan works. However, in this fairy tale, Keloğlan must find solutions to completely different problems by scratching his bald head.
Keloğlan sees a mark on the map at the back of the book left to him by his father and sets off again. This time, Keloğlan and his goat, White Girl, arrive in a very strange country. There are no girls to be seen on the streets. Because now all children are born male. There are colorful flowers in rows. But none of them smell. People have searched high and low for a solution to their problem, but to no avail. What’s more, the sultan’s daughter, Gül Sultan, is missing, and the sultan asks Keloğlan to find her. Keloğlan tries to solve the problems with his wits. What will Keloğlan gain this time in return for his effort and time? And what will the reader gain?
Buket Topakoğlu’s illustrations, each meticulously crafted like a painting, interpreted and enhanced with her own surprising visual narrative, will treat readers to a visual feast. They will inspire readers to read the story repeatedly and look at the pictures again and again.
